The Art - Deep Look 2009
By Mad Rice
The art pieces used in our collections is by the artist known as Mad-Rice from Kyoto.
Mad-Rice’s art is influenced by artists such as: Taro Okamoto, Ushio Shinohara and Shinro Ohtake. He defines his style as 'Modern Chaos' and uses it to convey a loud massage of freedom and innovation.
"There are 'Eyes'" he says, "looking at us everywhere, we are being judged at every step we take."
Mad - Rice protests against this constant judgment of society, He uses his drawing to expose our inner feelings and faces of the surroundings. He samples little anecdotes from our daily routine, digests them and spits them back out as his art.
When asked to put meanings his drawings he replied:
“…I do not draw, thinking of the meaning. I let my mind flow, and allow the brush to move freely, without thinking of the interpretation … This world is so mundane, I must create to liven it up….” [Mad-Rice 2007]
